Will certainly miss Brian and Danny being in the group, however, I wish them a happy retirement and best of luck in all their future endeavours. I remember Adam McIntosh being with the group years ago (talented musician and a pretty good singer as well). Welcome back. Looking forward to seeing Jeff Byrd should I ever get a chance to see the group again. Hi to Ron and Tom. Keep up the great entertainment.

Just finished reading Ron's latest rant about bigotry in the IBMA. This brings up a question I had for Ron concerning the band's concert this past summer in Luray, Va. At the festival the band Goldwing Express did a parody of Donald Trump; within this parody, were several "racist" (my opinion) jokes concerning Barak Obama. Visiting the DBFS table after this parody, one of the band members remarked on how much he enjoyed the parody. So my question for Ron, does some of this bigotry he speaks of exist within his own band? If so, how has he addressed it? I ask these questions with all due respect as I am a big fan of the band. Thanks for the music. mg

Admin reply: It did. As you might expect, it has seldom reared its head in my presence. I have fought it all my life with what tools I have. That said, I would venture that the parody that Gold Wing Express did was multi-faceted and that a casual listener might only hear that which he or she is attuned to. I remember hearing the parody sort of in the background, but I had no idea what was being said or sung save for I heard Mr. Trump's name. That's not the kind of humor I "tune in." When stuff like that is in my face, I pretty much put it in the category of...well, the battle must go on. And on.
I don't mind answering a question like this, but it is somewhat uncomfortable since I was not there to hear the conversation nor was I aware the performance that brought the question about. Of course, if one wants to consider all the possible perspectives, it is quite easy to see how no answer could satisfy more than just a few folks, depending on what each thinks is enough, too much, or too little. rt

Any chance you'll reissue the Golgotha album on CD? I have the cassette tape, but that's old technology. I just traded in my car with a cassette player.

Admin reply: Howdy Dan, (an excellent question) I have always pushed for a re-release of GOLGOTHA in a modern format, but it simply never took place. That album was selected by the Library of Congress as a signal bluegrass album to be sent to public libraries all over the world. I thought it should stay in print for that reason and a few others. However, now that Rounder Records has been sold to Concorde Music, I'm sure there's no chance that it will ever appear again. Thanks for asking. All the best, rt

I love DBFS & the way they do bluegrass. I wear an MP3 player at work & some days I listen to "Little Church by the Side of the Road" for a week solid. That's not the only one, there are more of DBFS on there that I listen to almost as much. I love your sound, I love the vocals...it's my kind of thing. I'm fixing to retire here soon (after almost 44 years), and am glad to have found your music. Keep up the good work!

Admin reply: You made my day. rt

I was very struck/moved by Ron's latest rant and would like to send him a couple of things I have written about racism. May I please have his email address?

Thanks,

Bob

Admin reply: It's right on the email that had the rant.

Have really missed annual live dose of DBFS at Strawberry Park's BG Fest in Preston, CT. Taking care of Mom 7 days a week, 6am to midnight, has taken presidence over attenance. Thank the powers that be, I've purchased several CDs at festivals past. They get me by.I just read Ron's newest rant and it just furthers my faith in Ron, DBFS, Bluegrass and humanity. Thank you Ron for always being the voice of reason and logic, unwaivering in your values and unafraid to share them with us. Racism and bigotry have caused enough pain in this world. Music is meant for harmony, within ourselves and with each other. Brian and Dan will be greatly missed. I would like to hear the new configuration this coming spring in CT but won't wish for it as it would mean I've lost the reason preventing my attendance.Thank you Ron for your rants so rational and as always THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the music.
Sincerely, Sue Telles
